This is all good but what about when the kids are at home? Do they know (and understand) the dangers of chat rooms and profiles. See sample lessons and get great resources.

While there are a myriad of reasons for students' unwillingness to speak up in class, there are so many options available today to help give them back their voice in the learning environment. Social networks such as Facebook and Myspace, just to name of few, are second nature to our students. They adapt to the interface in a matter of minutes and are well on their way to becoming fully immersed in their virtual communities. Why not mimic this in educational settings? Take what our students know and are comfortable with and make learning using a social network such a Ning the logical next step.
